Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted with minor alterations.

There were no matters arising.

Financial
Update Moelwyn Williams reported the following balances in the
accounts:
Deposit £490 Current £951
Designated No 2 Account £178 Total = £1,619
Moelwyn explained that donations
of £450 had been received and were included in the figures. A further
donation of £250, towards the Hope 2008 initiative, had also been
received but not included in the figures. The meeting was informed
that a decision had been taken to transfer the balance in the No
2 Account into a deposit account in order to accrue interest. Moelwyn
informed the meeting that subscriptions from Churches were now due
and he would be sending out letters to request payment.

Hope
2008 Events Update Margaret Smith reported on the wider-church
events that are currently being planned. These include:
(i) Songs of Praise Due to take place at St Woolos Cathedral
on Friday 15th February at 7pm this Ôlocal version' of
the BBC programme will include interviews, one of which is with
the Mayor of Newport, hymns and songs. Free tickets are available
to give to visitors.
(ii) Monthly Prayer and a Week of Prayer Margaret explained
that prayer is at the heart of the Hope 2008 initiative and that
there are monthly prayer events planned on the first Saturday of
each month at 7pm at different Church venues. The February 2nd
event is at St Mark's, and the March 1st event is at
Bethel Community Church. Venues are still being sought for some
of the other dates and Margaret asked if leaders would contact her
if they are able to host a meeting in their church.
Margaret added that a 24/7
Prayer Event will take place during the first week of April. She
explained that different Churches will be open at particular times
to allow people to come and pray. Rev Richard Gillion informed the
meeting that St Julian's Methodist is open for prayer every Friday
between from 10am Ð 4pm and could be used during the Week of Prayer.
Further details of the 24/7 event will follow.
(iii) Youth Focus Margaret explained that she had met with
Church youth leaders to explore what young people might contribute
to the Hope initiative. They were planning to use the city centre
Abundant Life Church as a base from which to undertake community
projects during the first week of July and host evening events with
local bands and speakers.
(iv) Family Fun Day Application has been made to the council
to host a Family Fun Day at Tredegar Park on Saturday 12th
July. Plans for children's activities, music and entertainment etc
are currently underway. Margaret explained the need for helpers
for the various activities that will take place.
(v) 'The Journey' Margaret explained that Teen Challenge
hope to host another performance of 'The Journey' under the banner
of Hope 2008 and are looking for a suitable venue.
(vi) Prom Praise The possibility of a Prom Praise event on
the evening of Friday 31st October, using worship/ music
groups from across the city is currently being considered. Keith
Bird mentioned that St Julian's Baptist may hold another praise
event on this date and could host the Prom Praise.
Those present reported on local events which were planned:
(i) St Woolos Churches Archdeacon Ken Sharpe gave information
on the May 10th march of local Churches to Belle Vue
Park. Gethin Abraham Williams (retired Gen Sec of CTiN) will speak
there. The Salvation Army band will be playing. Banners are welcome!
(ii) St Julian's Anniversary Keith Bird explained that St
Julian's Baptist have planned a number of events to celebrate the
Church's and the estate's 50th anniversary. These are
being incorporated into Hope 2008 and further details are available
on the church website www.sjbaptist.com
(iii) Visit of Helen Shapiro Faith Christian Centre has arranged
a visit from Helen Shapiro to the area. She will be singing and
speaking at a concert at County Hall, Cwmbran on 31st
May. Tickets are £5 and will be available via the Church website
www.faithchristiancentre.org.uk
from March.

(i)
Torture of detainees Mary Cook reported on a recent
conference about the use, in court, of information gained by the
Government through the torture of detainees. Mary requested that
letters of petition be sent from CTiN. The meeting advised that
Mary contact the Prime Minister's office, the Archbishop of Canterbury
and the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Wales.
(ii)
Prayer Breakfasts Michael Taplin asked if the monthly
leaders' prayer breakfasts were going to resume. Margaret Smith
said that ministers needed to be consulted to establish the most
convenient day. Margaret informed the meeting of a soup and roll
lunch for ministers to be held at Summerhill Baptist Church on Friday
8th Feb when a representative from New Life publishing
will be present to discuss publicising Hope 2008.
