INFORMATION

Newport and District Christian Education Council ( affectionately known as NADCEC is basically a nurture organisation catering for those working in Churches, Sunday Schools and youth fellowships etc. However with almost all of our activities we also seek to reach out to others who are not involved in the Church. We are an interdenominational organisation attempting to encourage Churches in the Newport area to work together in unity as we all seek to serve our one Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. To quote from our Constitution “ that it’s objects shall be to encourage the winning of children, young people and adults for the service of God through the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and to promote their welfare by means of Christian Education through Churches, their Christian Youth Organisations and Groups” Also to quote, from a previous President this time “NADCEC builds bridges between denominations and has an aim that spans all Churches”.

We organise various activities for Churches to join in with, involving all ages but predominantly aimed at children and young people. These can vary from year to year but the most recent are:-

Christmas Craft Afternoon when Children do Artwork based on the Christmas Story followed by Tea and Carol Singing

Pancake Party when Children do Artwork based on Lent and/or Easter followed by Pancakes and Squash.

Bible Exploration is held annually from January to March. This covers all Age Groups and takes the form of a series of Studies of Bible Passages on a given theme. The children have Workbooks and also Artwork. It is an enjoyable way of getting children, young people and adults to get to know the Bible and apply it in their own lives. Currently, by request these papers are being sent to a Church in Zambia for completion by the people there. They are also being used at a Vocational Bible School in India.

Our Residential Study Weekend is also held annually, in October/November at a centre about 40 miles away. There is always a Guest Speaker and these are from various denominations with a variety of subjects. This is a weekend for study, relaxation and fellowship and is usually only attended by adults

Other events of a different nature have been held in the past and may be used again in the future;-
  • Musical Productions involving all ages -- for outreach as well as the fellowship involved in preparation.
  • Quizzes and Barbecue -- simply for fun and fellowship
  • Eisteddfodau -- to give us an opportunity to present the results of our talents and gifts to God. We had a special one for the Millennium.
  • Coffee Evenings with guest speakers -- sometimes to learn of other peoples work , sometimes for training.

And many more ………

From time to time we organise a special collection and use the funds to donate books with a Christian theme to local schools. We have done this on four occasions to date; the most recent being in 2005 when we visited School Assemblies to donate copies of a Children’s Prayer Book to local Primary and/or Junior Schools. Copies of this Book had previously been given to all our member Churches to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II in 2002, where it had been very well received.
We support HHI -- Health Help International which is a Newport Based Charity helping to improve the health of the less fortunate in Zambia and India.
