On July 22nd Revd Peter Noble, the Moderator
for the URC in Wales, commissioned Rosie Buxton as Church
Related Community Worker (CRCW) at a well attended service
at St David Lewis Roman Catholic Church, Bettws.
The service was extraordinary in many ways. Rosie
is the first CRCW in Newport. She was called to the only
partnership in Wales between the URC and the Anglicans.
The Bishop of Monmouth, Rt Revd Dominic Walker OGS, said
the commissioning prayer. The service was held in the
local Roman Catholic Church because the Partnership's
Church was too small.
CRCWs are fully commissioned ministers of the
URC, whose focus is to bring the Church to the community.
The United Reformed Church scheme for CRCWs is
specifically commended in the new CofE Report Faithful
Cities. Further, the report asked that it be extended,
so that the training modules are available to other denominations
and faith-related community workers.
